Speaker is the Charioteer of Democracy

Jaipur, January 22. Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje has said that of the Government and the Opposition are two wheels of a chariot called democracy and the Assembly Speaker is the charioteer, who has a great role to play in making balance between these two.  She was addressing the house to congratulate Shri Kailash Meghwal on his unanimous election as the Speaker of the 14th Rajasthan Assembly on Tuesday.

Smt. Raje said that the Assembly was not just a building made of cement-bricks-stones, but is the temple sentiments of the crores of people of the state and every single word being spoken here should be sacred and truthful. The voice uttered here echoed not only the House, but in the entire country and world. Thus, it was responsibility of all its members to maintain and preserve the purity of the Assembly.

As the Leader of the House, the Chief Minister assured the Speaker that for the progress of the state, whenever required, she would certainly dialogue with the opposition members and take them into confidence. She suggested that the government and the opposition would make joint efforts to win trust of the people and thus strengthen the traditions of democracy. On the path of development of the state, there was no “this” side or “that” side, as all were elected by the people only and to edify Rajasthan they all would dialogue with their hearts open.

Highlighting the long experience of Shri Meghwal as the member of State Assembly and Lok Sabha and his in-depth knowledge about the parliamentary provisions, Smt. Raje entrusted that during his tenure this House would touch new heights.  She hoped that with his simple and amiable temperament, intelligent brains and impressive personality Shri Meghwal would do justice to all members of the Assembly objectively, and as per the traditions of the House.

Parliamentary Affair Minister Shri Rajendra Rathore also congratulated Shri Meghwal and stated that a new decorous chapter was added to the history of the State Assembly today. He called the Speaker’s chair equivalent to that of mythological Vikramaaditya and hoped that all members of the House would formulate and form a new Rajasthan in Shri Meghwal’s leadership.

On this occasion, all other members of the Assembly also congratulated the new Speaker.
