Annapurna Milk Scheme will ensure healthy childhood

62 lakh children to get milk for 3-days in week

Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje has said that the parents work very hard to ensure that their children get proper nutrition. Now, parents of 62 lakh children studying in state government schools and madarsas etc need not worry on this point. The state government has started the Annapurna Milk Scheme for the young population. Our future will be bright once these children start having milk as a part of their mid-day meal.

Smt. Raje launched the Annapurna Milk Scheme in a state-level function at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Dahmi Kalan on Monday. In this scheme children of upto class 5 will get 150 millilitres of fresh, pure and nutritious hot milk thrice every week and those in class 6 to 8 will get 200 millilitres. She said that this scheme would form the basis of happy and healthy future of Rajasthan.

The Chief Minister said that she was also a mother and was well aware about how would it feel to a mother seeing her child happy and healthy. She asked the officials to give priority to milk producers’ committees run by women for supply of milk to the various schools under this scheme. She said that having motherly feelings the women associated with such committees would not compromise with the quality of the milk to be supplied.

Smt. Raje said that by adding milk with the mid-day meal supplies nutrition level of children studying in government schools would be better and it would result in increased number of nominations and decrease in dropouts. She talked about various interventions and innovations done in the education sector in the state and said these resulted in Rajasthan becoming the leading state in the country. Scores of vacant posts of school teachers had been filled and model schools had been established at all panchayat samitis, she said. This led to enhanced quality of education, she added.

Prior to this, the State Education Minister Shri Vasudev Devnani said that this scheme would be a milestone to ensure better nutrition level of the school children. He talked about the interventions like promotion and recruitment of school teachers in the state. Now, the milk scheme would also add to the happiness index in the education sector, he said.

Parliamentary Secretary Shri Kailash Verma, Member of Parliament Shri Ramcharan Bohra, MLA Shri Nirmal Kumawat, Zila Pramukh Shri Moolchand Meena, Principal Secretary Education Shri Nareshpal Gangwar, other public representatives, state government officials were also present on this occasion.
