Co-operative Federalism is the way of the future

Jaipur/New Delhi, 7 December. Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje speaking at the meeting on the future of Planning Commission in New Delhi on Sunday, emphasized that Co-operative Federalism in the true sense is the only way through which States can work together to achieve national goals. She thanked the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and his Council of Ministers for creating an enabling environment where States were being allowed to comment fearlessly on governance structures.

Smt. Raje welcomed the fact that a thought process had been initiated regarding replacing or reinventing institutions and said that the States deserved more say in planning, devolution of funds and deciding on priorities. She said that she was a firm believer in the Constitution which provided enough opportunities for dialogue between the States and dialogue between Centre and States. She emphasized that there should be a forum for amicable resolution of centre–state and interstate issues, within the framework provided by the Constitution.

In the second half of the meeting Chief Minister, Smt. Raje spoke on the reforms process in Rajasthan. She explained how and why the reform agenda was being taken up. She elaborated on how amendments in Labour Laws lead to improved ease of doing business and at the same time helps to put in place a habitat for job creation.

Smt. Raje also mentioned that the Rajasthan reform agenda was not just restricted to labour and employment, but was also being extended to creation of physical and social infrastructure and other areas of governance. “Our reform agenda essentially seeks to improve the Government-Citizen interface as well as the Government–Business interface,” she said.
