PM launches National Nutrition Mission and pan-India expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Prime Minister
Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi gave two gifts to the nation on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Thursday. At Jhunjhunun in Rajasthan, he launched the National Nutrition Mission and expansion of the coverage of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme. On this occasion, the PM said that girls were not a curse but the pride of the family. He said that entire country had to join efforts to fight the ill-practice like female foeticide and save the country from malnutrition.
The PM started his address to the public gathering by congratulating the Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje on her 65th birthday. He applauded the remarkable achievements of Jhunjhunun district in saving daughters. He said that the efforts made here under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign inspired him to visit this sacred place.
Shri Modi said that the ill-minded cultural vices of the society caused in aborting the birth of girls and a social imbalance was created. Now, by giving the equal chance of taking birth and then opportunities of education to the girls, this void of several generations could be filled during next one-two generations.
The PM said that his government launched the prestigious initiative of nutrition mission by bringing the departments of Women & Child Development, Medical & Health, Drinking Water & Sanitation etc under one umbrella. He added that the target of the mission was to bring down the malnutrition rate from current 38% to 25% by the year 2022. He said that 9,000 crore rupees would be spent on the National Nutrition Mission.
During the event, the Prime Minister interacted with District Magistrates of the districts scoring high for this campaign. He also interacted with 200 beneficiary mothers and girl children who took birth after launch of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme three years ago. Shri Modi also awarded certificates to the best performing districts under the programme to District Collectors of Raipur (Chattisgarh), Sikar and Jhunjhunun (Rajasthan), Bijapur (Karnataka), North Sikkim (Sikkim), Taran Taaran (Punjab), Hyderabad (Telangana), Sonepat (Haryana) Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Udhampur (Jammu & Kashmir).
Shri Modi also felicitated the winner of photo contest of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Shri Mukesh Gautam and designer of logo of the National Nutrition Mission Garima Jain. He also launched the album of the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of Women & Child Development Smt. Maneka Gandhi said that several districts of the country witnessed improvement in the sex ratio since launch of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Now, expansion of the programme across the country would further benefit this. She also praised the CM Smt. Raje for her efforts in making the campaign a success.
Rajasthan’s Minister of State for Women & Child Development Smt. Anita Bhadel, MP Smt. Santosh Ahalawat, MLA Shri Ashok Parnami, Member of NITI Ayog Shri Kumar Paul, public representatives and officers were present during this.
PM launching National Nutrition Mission from Rajasthan is a matter of pride Chief Minister
Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje welcomed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of countrywide launch of the National Nutrition Mission from Jhunjhunun district. Addressing a grand public gathering in Jhunjhunun on Thursday, she said that selecting Rajasthan for this launching of mission and nationwide expansion of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign was a matter of pride for us all.
Smt. Raje said that the PM Shri Modi took initiative for emancipation of women and it brought a very big change to their lives. She called upon everybody to keep no stone unturned for working to accomplice the PM’s commitment for empowerment of India.
The Chief Minister said that our daughters are very precious. If a girl would study and get empowered, her family and entire society would be strengthened and it would be beneficial for the state as well. She said that Rajasthan had become the foremost state in the country. The CM said that Rajshri Yojana for newly born and Padmakshi Yojana for meritorious girls were a few of the ideas being implemented in the state for encouraging self-confidence and pride of girls and women.
Smt. Raje said that in past four years 43,000 laptops, 9,000 scooties and 11 lakh bycycles were distributed in the state. The state government was ensuring that our daughters get and utilize every opportunity and facility for making their future secure, she added. The CM said that the girls from Rajasthan were flying the flags of success throughout the country. They had become role models of women empowerment. She said that Mohana Singh was among the only three fighter jet women pilots in the country. Another woman, Ishrat Ahmed won accolades as the first Muslim female Commissioned Officer in the army, Meera Bai from Udaipur as the handpump mechanic and Hina Kalla as selected RAS despite being visibly-disabled, she added. She further stated that a women self-help group of tribal women from Dungarpur were inspiring women of entire country by creating their own brand of solar lamps.
The Chief Minister said that several districts in Rajasthan launched initiatives for encouraging birth of girl child. In Rajasmand’s Piplantri gram panchayat 111 trees were being planted on birth of a girl child. By now, 3 lakh 50 thousand trees had been planted in this panchayat. In Sri Ganganagar, Bharatpur and Dausa districts the couples take the 8th round (fera) while solemnizing marriage for saving girls. Even Jhunjhunun, Sri Ganganagar, Bharatpur and Jaipur districts had started initiative of tree plantation on birth of girl child.
Smt. Raje reiterated that everybody should and would work for realizing PM Shri Modi’s dream of making girls and women self-reliant. She said that Rajasthan and the entire country would write a chapter on success under his leadership. She assured that all citizen of Rajasthan would support him and make it an empowered state.
झुंझुनूं और सीकर सहित दस जिलों के कलेक्टर सम्मानित
श्री मोदी ने बेटी बचाओ-बेटी पढ़ाओ अभियान में उल्लेखनीय उपलब्धि हासिल करने पर देश के दस जिलों के कलेक्टरों को सम्मानित किया। उन्होंने रायपुर (छत्तीसगढ़) की कलेक्टर शम्मी अबीदी, सीकर के कलेक्टर नरेश कुमार ठकराल एवं पूर्व कलेक्टर एलएन सोनी, बीजापुर (कर्नाटक) के शिव कुमार केबी, नॉर्थ सिक्किम के कर्मा आर बोनपो, तरनतारन (पंजाब) के प्रदीप सब्बरवाल, हैदराबाद (तेलंगाना) की डॉ. योगिता राणा, सोनीपत (हरियाणा) के मकरंद पाण्डुरंग, अहमदाबाद की अवंतिका सिंह, झुंझुनूं कलेक्टर दिनेश कुमार यादव, उधमपुर (जम्मू-कश्मीर) के श्री रविन्द्र कुमार को सम्मानित किया। प्रधानमंत्री ने इस अभियान के तहत आयोजित फोटो प्रतियोगिता के विजेता उधमपुर के मुकेश गौतम तथा राष्ट्रीय पोषण मिशन की लोगो प्रतियोगिता की विजेता गरिमा जैन को भी सम्मानित किया। इससे पहले उन्होंने सम्मानित होने वाले कलेक्टरों से संवाद किया। प्रधानमंत्री ने समारोह में बेटी बचाओ-बेटी पढ़ाओ अभियान की फोटो पुस्तिका का विमोचन भी किया। मुख्यमंत्री ने प्रधानमंत्री को ‘पेंटिंग शेखावाटी’ पुस्तक भेंट की।
केंद्रीय महिला एवं बाल विकास मंत्री श्रीमती मेनका गांधी ने कहा कि बेटी बचाओे-बेटी पढ़ाओ अभियान से देश के कई जिलों में लिंगानुपात में सुधार आया है। अब इस अभियान को सभी जिलों में लागू किया जा रहा है। उन्होंने राजस्थान में इस क्षेत्र में हुए काम के लिए मुख्यमंत्री श्रीमती वसुन्धरा राजे की प्रशंसा की।
इस अवसर पर महिला एवं बाल विकास राज्यमंत्री श्रीमती अनिता भदेल, नीति आयोग के सदस्य श्री विनोद कुमार पॉल, सांसद श्रीमती संतोष अहलावत, विधायक श्री अशोक परनामी भी मंच पर उपस्थित थे।
